The House from HELL
Okay, so just in case the web page title didn't give it away. This page is dedicated to our wonderful home in middle Georgia. You see we had the hankerin for a custom built home as we were getting tired of living in a rent house full of roaches and no room to move.
Needless to say as first timers at building a house there were a lot of things to learn beforehand (which we though we did) and many more things we have learned since. Not all experiences are bad, some are quite comical, as you will find out. Others are just downright sad. Partly, the goal of the page is to make us feel better by telling the world about our experience and then maybe, just maybe, we can spare someone else the pain we have experienced. Probably the smartest thing our builder told us was that building a house can ruin a marriage. It thankfully didn't get to us, but it damn sure pushed the limits. Jokingly, it probably would have been better to just have children! Oh wait, 2 black cats...
The Basics
Four bedroom, two and a half bath, 2300 square foot house, with 3 patios, a sunroom,
wood burning fireplace (OH that one we will get to later...), 2 car garage, laundry room,
sprinkler system, Stone exterior, large master bath with jacuzzi tub and walk in shower,
his and hers closets, kitchen vent hood that vents to the outside, REAL wood floors in
the kitchen, sunroom, and entryway, carpet throughout the rest of the house.
The Extras
Built in vacumn system, emergency generator electrical connection, cable tv jacks on every wall, Cat 5 cabling for home networking in every room, 16' x 16' work shed with A/C, extra electrical outlets everywhere such as the eves for christmas lights, at the driveway header walls, above the interior windows, night lighting in the kitchen, outside spigots on EVERY WALL, packet doors, dedicated 20 amp electrical circuit for home office. You get the idea. A lot of extra stuff we put into it that we call creature comforts but apparently WAY more than what the other "custom" homes even have today. Most of these extras we put our sweat and blood into.
COMING SOON: --> Click Here for a video timeline while it was being built.
The Rest of the Story
Where do I start? I can only imagine that our friends thought we were whiners while building this place but Damn! I know Bill's poor coworkers had to put up with a lot. It all begins with the builder; we should have known better. A former truck driver turned house builder. He got into the house building business via his father in law, yep you guessed it another former trucker. Needless to say he fought us about EVERYTHING.
